Organic Peppermint Essential Oil

March 21st, 2008 by barbara-ann

Although St. Patrick’s Day has come and gone, I still have green on the mind.  My mom used to keep a clear crystal decanter full of green de menthe liquor in the family room when I was a kid, and the color and sweet smell were so intense.

And although peppermint essential oil is clear, green still comes to mind when I smell it.  Peppermint spray feels awesome during Florida’s hot, humid summers.  Spritz all over, right out of the fridge, and you’ll have that whole “York Peppermint Patty” thing going on (minus the calories, thank you very much!)  If you happen to have very sensitive skin, then you may not want to spray it on yourself, but you can still enjoy it by spraying it into your environment.  It will uplift and de-fog the mind!

One of the coolest things about peppermint essential oil (pun intended) is it helps increase energy and endurance.  As a marathon runner, I’ve managed to get through some painfully long runs thanks to peppermint, whether in the form of mints, gum or sniffs from my portable oil vial!  And when I have 3 laundry loads awaiting me at 10 pm on a Wednesday night, I use it in my natural laundry detergent to help kick start me and keep me peppy (ha ha – yet another lame pun).  Mixing it with spicy or floral essential oils creates an unexpected scent that is usually a real surprise and delight!

I only use organic peppermint oil because I feel the properties are best experienced when the peppermint plant is grown naturally, without any tainting.  St. Patrick’s Day is only a one day celebration, but I think we’re all thinking more green these days.
