Essential Oil Scents
Initially, I was surprised by the fragrant intensity of essential oils. Some essential oils smelled so different from the kinds of fragrance aromas I’d become accustomed to. In fact, I was initially turned off by some of the new scents I was experiencing. But as I continued to study and experiment with a variety of essential oils (EO), I realized my nose had simply grown up on - and become accustomed to - synthetic scents.
I can remember the very first time I took a whiff of the pure EO of Roman Chamomile. Expecting the calm, sweet smell that is so prevalent in synthetically-scented chamomile baby products, I was shocked by the intensity and potency of the true EO! With a couple of exceptions, EO’s should never be used directly on the skin without being diluted in some sort of emulsifier first. So in reality, the oil would never be used undiluted in its pure form. But the scent of chamomile EO is still quite different from the typical synthetic chamomile used in mainstream baby products.
A good analogy is switching from a diet full of refined sugars and fast food to a healthy eating plan of fruits, veggies and lean protein. Talk about a shock to the system!
Has anyone else ever had a similar experience with an introduction to an EO commonly used in a synthetic form?
