Essential Oil Scents - Part 2
I have become extremely sensitized to synthetic smells. Walking through the fragrance counters in department stores has become a real headache-generator.
There was a time I used to buy the entire line of a fragrance, so I could perform the whole “layering” ritual the fragrance industry experts often recommend:
1) First, you exfoliate with the scented scrub
2) Then you shower with the scented gel
3) Wash your hair with the shampoo and conditioner in the same scent
4) Pat dry and slather on the matching scented lotion
5) Once you’re dry, follow with a dusting of the matching body powder
6) Spritz on the eau de parfum, cologne spray (and / or dab on the perfume oil)
7) etc., etc., etc.
Call me crazy, but day after day, I used to engage in this ceremonial absurdity. And you know what? I enjoyed every second of it! It was pampering and it made me feel - and smell - good. Or at least I thought I smelled good.
Who knows for sure? Maybe I did smell lovely. The thing is, when I try to sniff those synthetic fragrances these days, my nose doesn’t comply. They now smell strange - something just doesn’t seem right.
My gradual transition from synthetics to naturals has allowed me to customize scents according to my ever-changing moods. There are no chemical additives. The source is organically harvested and the EO’s are certified organic. And as more and more physicians integrate EO’s into their practices, I am confident there really are mind and body benefits.
We feel good we surround ourselves with good smells. But do scents from synthetics provide the same benefits as those from essential oils? In my opinion, probably not.

Hi Barbara-Ann, thank you for stopping by my site. I’m so glad I found your site through your message.
I agree with you on the synthetics used in perfumes. Although I love perfume, sometimes I sneeze when the synthetic ingredients in certain fragrances are too overwhelming. I strongly believe in certified organics, so hopefully they will start using more of that rather than synthetics. If we benefit from the organic ingredients, then that’s a definite plus!
