Stop and Smell the Roses

August 7th, 2008 by barbara-ann

If anyone has ever told you to stop and smell and the roses, it may be the person thinks you are not enjoying life enough. Sadly, most of us do not take enough time to “stop and smell the roses” because we are too busy with day-to-day responsibilities and obligations.

While I am not sure where the phrase actually originated, I find it interesting the referenced flower is rose. Roses are beautiful flowers that smell delightful. In the world of essential oils, rose oils are referred to as “precious oils”.

My favorite precious oil is Turkish Rose. It is precious because thousands of rose petals are required just to produce a single drop of turkish rose oil. If you have not yet had an opportunity to smell Turkish rose, I recommend adding it to your bucket list!

Turkish rose has a profoundly positive effect on mood. When I smell it, I feel immediately calmer, happier and upbeat. This sensual scent is considered to be an aphrodisiac. Other properties include sedative, antidepressant and antiseptic.

In general, I am not a huge fan of florals and actually prefer spicy scents, but this is one I love to inhale because it really helps to calm me quickly. Due to the expense, many distributors sell it by the drop. I have a tiny glass bottle with a couple of drops of Turkish Rose that I keep in my purse. If I get stuck in a traffic jam, I just unscrew the lid and slowly breathe in serenity.

So next time someone recommends you “stop and smell the roses”, you may want to seek out some Turkish Rose. A couple of drops may cost $10, but it’s the best $10 you’ll ever spend for peace of mind and overall well being!
