Cream Perfume Recipes
Cream perfumes make great holiday gifts and can be made in bulk at home. All you need are a few essential oils for scent, as well as some beeswax, jojoba oil, sweet almond oil and 100% shea butter. The recipe below will make sixteen 1/4-oz jars, which will delight your recipients (and you) with a sensory experience enveloped in a luxuriously moisturizing base.
Ingredients:
1/3 cup beeswax pellets
4 oz jojoba oil
4 oz sweet almond oil
5 tbsp 100% pure shea butter.
I like to make perfumes and other creams using the “bain marie method”. You can google ‘bain marie’ for details, but the way I execute this method is to place a smaller glass container inside a large pot filled halfway with water over the stovetop.
I use a deep, sturdy pot for the larger pot and a pyrex glass bowl for the smaller container (one with a handle and pouring spout allow for easy transfer into the finished container(s)). I set the glass bowl into my larger pot and then add water to the large pot until the water level reaches the midpoint of the smaller glass bowl.
Set the stovetop temperature to low and then add the beeswax to the glass bowl, stirring occasionally until the beeswax pellets are completely melted into liquid form (this part takes the longest – usually between 30 and 45 minutes). For stirring, I recommend using glass stirring sticks that are often used for mixing cocktails.
Next, add the jojoba oil. You may notice part of the beeswax begins to solidify because the jojoba is at room temperature when added. Just stir a couple of minutes until the jojoba and beeswax have liquified.
Add the sweet almond oil and proceed in the same manner as described with the jojoba oil. And once all 3 ingredients have combined and liquified, then add the shea butter in its solid form. Continue stirring until fully liquified and then pour into container(s).
For a single 4 oz jar, add 60 drops of essential oil. At this time of year, I generally use sixteen small 1/4 oz jars because they make great gifts – just add 4-5 drops of essential oils to the liquid base. Some of favorites this time of year include:
3 drops of blood orange with 2 drops of cinnamon bark,
3 drops peppermint and 2 drops rosemary,
3 drops vanilla and 2 drfops patchouli
Have a happy, healthy and fragrant holiday!:-)
