Wood Furniture Oil
We have some beautiful teak wood furniture in our home, and for years, I used teak oil sold by the place we purchased the furniture. While the furniture always glowed right after the furniture was dusted and oiled, the smell was caustic and the shine evaporated within a few days. I’m not sure what’s in the stuff, but the smell never left me feeling very good about what my family might be getting exposed to.
So I created my own and would like to share the recipe. I’ve given some bottles as “Spring Cleaning” gifts to friends and family and have rec’d some rave reviews. If you try it, please drop me a line and let me know what you think…
It’s safe and the wood stays shiny for quite awhile. And if a pet or kid decides to do something nutty, like lick the glowing oiled wood, no worries! Here’s the recipe:
In a 10 oz bottle, combine the following ingredients in the order listed:
2 oz. flax oil
6 oz. sweet almond oil
1/2 oz. lemon essential oil
1/2 oz. cedarwood oil
Shake the mixture well to combine all ingredients and let it sit 24 hours before using. While you wait for the ingredients to blend, remove all dust from your furniture. I prefer using a vacuum cleaner with a dusting attachment because I see dust fly into the air when I use traditional hand held dusting devices.
The next day, shake your wood furniture oil well and apply a small amount to a soft microfiber cloth (which does not leave fibers behind) and just rub onto the wood, following the grain direction. If you apply too much, you can wither spread it across a wider area or use a clean cloth to wipe the excess off. You’ll be amazed at how long the shine remains! And the smell is so fresh and natural. I hope you enjoy pampering your wood with this special treat! Happy (Belated) Spring Cleaning:-)
